Hoya Women's Lightweight Rowers Alex Vezina and Alexis Zink Named All-Americans

June 24, 2008
Washington, D.C. - Georgetown rowers Alex Vezina (Tallahassee, Fla./Leon) and Alexis Zink (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Visitation) were named to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association's (CRCA) Pocock Lightweight All-American team for the spring season. Both ladies were recognized as outstanding performers in NCAA women's rowing.
"This year has been a very challenging one, and every challenge at which we succeeded was just another step towards our end goal," Vezina said. "Our coaches are hugely responsible for our success, pushing us to give more every day than we had the day before. Our coaches molded those individual successes we had during winter training into a team effort that brought Georgetown a silver medal."
The Lightweights just completed their season with a second-place finish at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship Regatta on Cooper River in Camden, New Jersey
"Our four senior captains, along with all of the upperclassmen, were amazing leaders and made this past season a great one that I will never forget," Zink said. "The people, teammates, volunteers, coaches, alumni, and everyone else associated with Georgetown rowing have really helped us immensely."
"Also invaluable to my growth as an athlete this year was the presence of Alexis," Vezina added. "Throughout the erg season we sat side by side every practice, and I think we pushed each other harder than we could have pushed ourselves."
