CCR's Alex Vizina Named Scholar Athlete

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Alex Vezina of the Georgetown University women's rowing team was named a Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) scholar athlete for the 2009 season, when the honors were announced on Tuesday morning. Vezina was also honored as a scholar athlete for the 2008 season, as well as an athletic All-American by the CRCA.
Student-athletes were required to meet all eligibility requirements defined by their institutions, row in the institution's NCAA or IRA eligible boats for a minimum of 75-percent of the current spring races or races in regional conference events and carry a 3.5 cumulative grade point average or higher for their career.
Vezina (Leon High School ’06) was a four year varsity rower for Leon Crew (now Capital City Rowing), and is completing her third year as a recruited member of the Georgetown University lightweight rowing team. Vezina’s 1st Varsity 8 boat won the Silver medal at the 2008 IRA National Championships, and will compete in this year’s National Championships in Sacramento, CA, June 5-7.
